Signs that your Air Duct System Needs to Be Cleaned

Here are the main signs that your air ducts need to be cleaned, as prepared by the Denver air duct cleaning and Denver ductwork sanitization team here at Air Improvement Denver.

Dust and Debris Vent and Cut Clogging

If you see a small amount of dust puff out of your HVAC vents when your system starts running, your air ducts are dirty.

Clogged Air Filters

If you have to regularly swap out filters in your heating or cooling system, especially if just a few days after they have been replaced, your air ducts are likely very dirty. We recommend air filters are changed every few months.

Bad Odor in Ducts

If you smell bad smells in your home when your heating or cooling is turned on, it’s likely due to a dirty air duct system.

Bad Home AIrflow

A great way to tell if your air ducts need cleaning is if airflow is inconsistent between different rooms of your house. Indoor HVAC air flow should be completely consistent from room to room. If it’s not, it’s likely due to dirty air ducts.

Animals or Insects in Air Ducts

If you notice any signs of pest infestation in your air ducts, it needs to be cleaned. Vermin dander, droppings, insect casings, bacteria, and viruses can all cause serious health issues.

Your Home Gets Dusty Quickly

If you regularly find a ton of dust or dirt in your home after cleaning it’s likely due to a dirty air duct spreading dust throughout your home whenever it’s turned on.

Higher Heating or Cooling Bills

If your heating or cooling bills experience a sharp increase it’s likely due to a dirty air duct. Ductwork, when blocked, prevents air from easily flowing, causing your furnace or air conditioner to use more energy to maintain the thermostat temperature, increasing your energy bills in turn.

Strange Sounds in Ductwork

If you notice a ton of sound, or strange noises from your ductwork (besides the normal moor sound), your ductwork is likely dirty or clogged.

Your Home Was Just Constructed, Repaired, or Renovated

Construction work and remodeling of all kinds causes a ton of dust and dirt to build up. Make sure that your air ducts and HVAC systems are fully cleaned after any construction or renovation.
